How He Became a Martyr:
On July 21, 2024, amid a student movement demanding reforms in the government job quota system, clashes erupted between protestors and law enforcement in the area.
Yesterday, Wednesday, at noon, Obaidul Islam, sitting in their one-room house in Dakshin Donia, Jatrabari, recounted, “When I went closer and looked, I realized it was my own son. Seeing him, I cried out ‘My boy, my precious boy,’ and almost lost consciousness. Later, I took another CNG to rush him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Within five minutes, the doctor informed me that my son was no more. Before that, I had called my son’s mother to let her know he had been shot. Later, I had to tell her the unbearable truth — our son had passed away.”
